Exchange rates

Exchange rates shows the daily rates the platform analytics use to convert money into US dollars. Open it from Exchange rates in the top bar.

“The daily rates the analytics use to convert amounts to USD.”

Every day the platform fetches the rate of every currency your stores sell in from Exchange Rate API and keeps it: “Rates are fetched every day from Exchange Rate API. A rate you set by hand is kept.” When a store with a new currency appears, it gets its rate on the next fetch. After a new release, today’s rates are fetched within minutes, so there is nothing to do.

If a fetch fails, it is tried again several times. If it still fails, the analytics use the nearest earlier day’s rate and say so under the figures.

If every store sells in US dollars, the page says “Every store sells in USD: no rates are needed.”

Latest rates lists the stored rates, newest first, with Day, Pair (such as USD to CRC), Rate, Source (the provider, or “Set by hand”) and Recorded. A rate is how many units of the other currency one US dollar buys. Before the first fetch you see “No rates stored yet.”

Under Daily fetch, select Fetch today’s rates now to fetch without waiting for the next scheduled fetch. You see “Rates fetched.” A day you set by hand is not overwritten. If the provider doesn’t answer you see “The rates provider did not answer. Try again later.”; try again later.

Under Set a rate by hand there is a form for each currency, with Day and the rate (for example USD to CRC), and a Save … rate button, such as Save CRC rate. “How many CRC one USD buys on a day. It replaces the fetched rate for that day; days with no rate of their own use the nearest earlier one.” You see “Rate saved.” and the daily fetch leaves that day alone from then on.

Do it when:

  • A day’s rate is wrong or missing, for example after a failed fetch, and you want the reports to use the right one.
  • You want exact history before the first fetch. Days before the first stored rate use the earliest one and are marked approximate; set the rate for those days to correct them.

Enter the rate as a plain number, with a dot for decimals. If you choose a currency no store sells in you see “No store sells in that currency.”

  • Only platform admins see this page, and each fetch or rate you set is recorded in the audit.
  • A changed rate shows in the reports when you reload them.
